Training Offerings

Shane offers trainings, workshops and continuing education classes to schools, agencies, small businesses and corporate teams covering LGBTQ+ community education. Trainings are ideal for a group who is looking for education around the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, and more specifically, information and education around the experience of transgender individuals, pronouns, gender identity, intersectionality of the LGBTQ+ experience, how to create inclusive spaces, common barriers for LGBTQ+ and more.

Trainings can be customized to your group’s unique goals and needs. Please fill out the form below to discuss pricing and your organization’s specific needs.

Shane primarily works in the state of Connecticut, but can accommodate virtual trainings. In-person trainings requiring travel over an hour will incur travel fees.

Below are listed a few examples of past trainings. Trainings are 3 hours in length with the option to do multiple days, in person or virtual, depending on the needs of your organization.

LGBTQ+ and Gender Identity Introductory training

This training is an overview of the community, as well as the various inter-communities. In this content, we explore the components of identity, including the dimensions of gender and what the experience of the transgender individual is like. This training also explores ways to increase comfortability with working with the LGBTQ+ community as a provider. Participants also learn ways to use inclusive language and gain insight into the importance of acknowledging the impact of using client’s identified pronouns.

Gender Identity and Intersectionality

This training offers a more in-depth perspective on  gender identity and the intersections between orientation, attraction, and gender. This training offers an understanding of the process of transitioning for clients, as well as what the process requires. This training also begins the conversation around stigma, racism, equity, and awareness as providers.

Substance Abuse, Mental Health, and the LGBTQ+ Community

This training offers a review of the Gender Identity, Intersectionality, and introduction training but also goes more in-depth to help providers gain a deeper understanding of the risk factors, stigma, and how LGBTQ+ history impacts the current LGBTQ+ experience. Substance use among the community is 3x higher than the average for the general population, and therefore is an emerging issue in the community.
